Meet the Teachers at CMA Music Classes for Kids in Springfield MO!
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”
William Arthur Ward
Close your eyes and try to recall for a moment… How many of your previous music class teachers do you remember?
The memory of all the things you did back then in your music class 10, 20, 30 years ago may be too bleak to remember. But I’m 100% sure the music class teacher who touched your heart and inspired you will never be forgotten…
It’s the guiding hand, gentle voice, wisdom, patience, and the kindness of these mentors who inspired you to become the best you can be that will always remain close to your heart.
CMA wants to help your child experience the magic they can create day after day with music.
Our teachers don’t just tell, explain, and show you how to properly position your fingers on the fret of the guitar, or how to beat the drums to actually create music instead of noise....
CMA music class teachers inspire and help kids realize their passion and go for it because we believe in every child!
Peg
Peg has been teaching at CMA for 11 years. She has been actively involved in choirs for as long as she can remember. Music is a HUGE part of her life - she plays guitar and is currently a music director at Church. One of her greatest joys is to share music with her children and watch their bands perform. Her passion for music and for children are two of the biggest reasons why she loves what she does and finds meaning in it.
Kelly
One of our Amazing Substitute Teacher
A graduate of Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Kelly holds a degree in Music and Sociology. She was an active member of all three choirs in her university - chamber choir, concert chorale, and the show choir. This is her 10th year of teaching music at CMA, although music has always been part of her life. When she’s not teaching music, she’s absorbed in her other passions in life including hiking in the woods and reading books. Her family always keeps her happy, being a mother and teacher of 6 sons whom she homeschools, and a wife to a fellow music lover.
Donna
Donna has been teaching music for 40 years. She graduated from John Brown University with a degree in Music Education. After college, she taught in a public school in Dallas. When she moved to Denver, Colorado, she learned about the Children’s Music Academy. She fell in love with the music program at CMA as it was the perfect match for her considering her love of music and love for children. It’s been 26 years since she became a CMA teacher, and she’s still loving every minute of it.
A pastor’s wife, she plays the piano and sings at Church. Donna loves to stay active and enjoys riding the bicycle, floating, and engaging in the fun outdoor activities available in Missouri. Her passion for life and music are evident in every encounter she has with the children in and out of class. The greatest joy she has as a teacher is to see the children’s eyes light up when they are able to conquer a hard concept.
Izumi
Izumi took CMA group lessons in Japan through Yamaha. But before that, she was already exposed in music since Junior High where she played the piano, trombone, and clarinet. She is very passionate about the piano and plays to distress and feel more energized. The piano - and music - keeps her energized and in touch with her soul.
Amy McGee
Amy McGee is thrilled to be part of the Children’s Music Academy. “I truly love music, children and education. I believe in the creative curriculum of CMA and am excited for our journey in the classroom!” She graduated from the Milwaukee High School for the Arts and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from BYU. As a member of the Music Teachers National Association, she has taught piano for decades. Amy & her husband, Rick, are the parents of seven grown children and a growing number of grandchildren.
Kristin
Kristin just began teaching at CMA and loves being back in the classroom. She was a music education major at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN, and taught band for a few years before leaving to raise her family. She has been actively involved in church music and now that her children are older she is currently teaching band at Springfield Lutheran Schools. Music has been a very important part of her life since she was little, taking piano lessons, playing flute, and being actively involved in choirs through her school years.. Her husband is a music teacher and all of her kids have participated in music in one form or another through school. She is excited to share this adventure with the kids at CMA.
